The cricket has such splendid fringe on its feet, and it sings, have you noticed, with its whole body, and heaven knows if it ever sleeps. Jesus said, wait with me. –from “Gethsemane” by Mary Oliver Good Friday’s Tenebrae (Latin for shadows) worship will mark the death of Jesus and the presence of continued “Good Fridays” in the world’s suffering today. Songs, candles, images, and Scripture will bring us into this place of shadows.

And did not unlearn it.

In fight or flight, I flew.

I confess all this.

And I commit to hearing

The raw stories,

To letting your vulnerability

Chafe me.
