Meals on Wheels

Rock Spring has had a long-term commitment to providing volunteer drivers for Meals on Wheels in Arlington. Working in teams of two, Rock Springers are responsible for five MOW routes on the first and third Fridays of each month. We deliver a hot lunch and a bag dinner plus drinks to homebound individuals who are unable to shop for and/or prepare meals for themselves.

In total, Rock Springers deliver over 1500 meals per year. Meals On Wheels has been delivering meals in Northern Virginia since 1971. It is run almost exclusively by volunteers. Clients are usually homebound due to a long term handicap or because of short term convalescence. Those with sufficient income pay the amount that their food costs MOW. Clients with limited income pay according to their means.

If you are able to commit to one Friday per month (11:00am-1:00pm), or if you want to help on an occasional basis as a sub, contact Lisa Trangsrud: LTrangsrud@hotmail.com.

The next phase of the campus renewal project will begin on Monday, July 24 and will impact most of the first floor of the main building. During the upcoming week, staff offices will be relocated to the second floor of the Hunter Building, as will meeting spaces for boards and other groups.

During our first gathering, we talked about hymns and how we found our way to Rock Spring. What theological questions or wonderings do you have? Cafe Kindred offers food and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for you to order and enjoy while we meet if you choose.

The reality is that I too have

Authored your pain.

I laid a blank piece of paper down

When you needed me to respond.

I chose the shortcut.

I learned complicity,

Learned to move quietly in my privilege,

Learned to let the doors open for me

Before walked inside.

I inherited fear

And did not unlearn it.

In fight or flight, I flew.

I confess all this.

And I commit to hearing

The raw stories,

To letting your vulnerability

Chafe me.
