Global Mission Letter
The Global Missions Committee wants Rock Springers to be aware of a letter submitted to members of Congress by a collective of faith leaders, including the UCC's own General Minister and President, the Rev. Dr. John Dorhauer. The letter expresses strong concern about the pending piece of legislation termed the "Israel Anti-Boycott Act" (Senate S.720, House H.R. 1697). This legislation penalizes or criminalizes the use of economic measures, such as boycotting, as a legitimate means of opposing policies that inhibit human rights. Boycott has long been an approach to nonviolent resistance, including in the Civil Rights movement.
We will have copies of this letter available during coffee hour this Sunday, November 19th and the link to it is below. The letter declares that citizens should be allowed to act economically "in accordance with their faith (and) values." If you agree, please let your congresspersons know.
