Thursday Friends

The Thursday Friends Group, meeting the first and third Thursday of each month, focuses on how to find and practice spirituality in our everyday lives. Its members usually read a variety of book and shorter pieces, mostly by Protestant or Catholic authors. For its next meeting on Thursday, May 4, the group will discuss two short articles:  “The Spirituality of Everyday Life: Transforming Ourselves and Spiritualizing Everyday Life!” by Dr Robert Calkin and “Weapons In The War For Human Kindness,” an interview with David Budbell, by Diane Smith. If you’d like to be part of this discussion -- with no obligation to join the group on a continuing basis – please join us on May 4. If you can’t find the articles online, Jerry Kamens, glkamens@aol.com, or 703-241-8919, will be happy to e-mail them to you.

First and Third Thursdays, 10:00-11:30 a.m., Saegmuller Room

The reality is that I too have

Authored your pain.

I laid a blank piece of paper down

When you needed me to respond.

I chose the shortcut.

I learned complicity,

Learned to move quietly in my privilege,

Learned to let the doors open for me

Before walked inside.

I inherited fear

And did not unlearn it.

In fight or flight, I flew.

I confess all this.

And I commit to hearing

The raw stories,

To letting your vulnerability

Chafe me.
