Thursday Friends

Thursday Friends meets on the first and third Thursday morning of each month for 90 minutes to discuss a previously selected book, essay or news article of interest. While the group doesn't have a formal charter, it seems most attracted to examining contemporary spirituality in everyday life, primarily through the prism of Christianity, but also other religious perspectives as well. Typical authors have included Barbara Brown Taylor, Anne Lamott, Richard Rohr, and Thich Nhat Hahn.

To Be Collected: Sunday, June 4

The reality is that I too have

Authored your pain.

I laid a blank piece of paper down

When you needed me to respond.

I chose the shortcut.

I learned complicity,

Learned to move quietly in my privilege,

Learned to let the doors open for me

Before walked inside.

I inherited fear

And did not unlearn it.

In fight or flight, I flew.

I confess all this.

And I commit to hearing

The raw stories,

To letting your vulnerability

Chafe me.
